“I think I got too excited and made a few mistakes,” reported Michael Radziejowski on Day 1 of the New Year, also Day 1 of the IC Worlds. “It was blowing 17-22 knots, so it was good sailing. It’s beautiful here.”
Michael Radziejowski is enjoying the Austral summer in Melbourne, competing in the International Canoe World Championships. Thanks to many generous donations from friends, organizations and well-wishers, 16-year-old Mikey was able to make the trek down under to fulfill the dream of his young life.
He did exceptionally well in the Pre-Worlds, coming in 7th out of 27 competitors. And he came in 5th out of 18 boats in an invitational race on New Year’s Eve. Heck, by the time the Worlds started the next day, he must’ve been worn out! With three races left to go, he’s 18th out of 21 boats.
On Day 2, the Worlds had an unexpected layday, as winds wound up to 30 knots. Mikey’s not alone down there, as Del Olsen (from whom Mikey acquired his IC, Old Dog, New Tricks) and other Californians are also competing. We’ll have more on the Worlds after they wrap up. In the meantime, check out Mikey’s blog at www.mikeyradz.blogspot.com and the official site at www.icworlds.org.
Love,
Windy
