“Thanks to Mist, Black Sheep, Vita a Bella, Wired, Columbine and
Sandpiper for all making the effort to race in last Saturday's SBYRA Winter #3 off of Sierra Point,” writes race organizer Larry Westland. “However, the race had to be called because of building winds (20+ kts), growing seas, pelting rain and diminishing visibility. As such it just got too ugly out there to be safe and fun, especially for the smaller and/or short-handed boats, plus I couldn't image Kevin Hartig trying to stay on-station as RC in those conditions in his little San Juan 24. (Thanks Kevin for making such a gallant effort to pull this off with just you and Olivier).
“Moving on, SBYRA Winter #4 is scheduled for Saturday, February 2 on the Coyote Point race course in San Mateo - so do plan on joining us then for the noon start.”
Larry says that these races are run individually, as opposed to SBYRA’s Summer Series, which is run as a... series! “Skippers can sign up for just an individual outing, so long as they’ve signed the liability waiver, paid the modest $10 entry fee and have passed these items to Jocelyn via snail mail or me at the starting line itself.” For particulars, see http://sbyra.home.comcast.net/~sbyra.
