SSS Three Bridge FiascoJanuary 25, 2025 The Singlehanded Sailing Society's Three Bridge Fiasco is a pursuit race around three marks near three Bay Area bridges: Blackaller Buoy near the South Tower of the Golden Gate, Yerba Buena Island bisecting the Bay Bridge, and Red Rock, just south of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Each skipper gets to choose which direction to cross the starting line in front of the Golden Gate Yacht Club, which direction to sail the course, which order to round the marks, and which direction to cross the finish line. With 330 boats registered, it's the largest keelboat race in the United States. What could possibly go wrong? When you add to the equation a strong ebb and ship traffic but substract functional breeze, plenty. Nevertheless, the 21-ish-mile race did have finishers. See the results here.
