el toro stampede & green bottle race

At age 70, the El Toro Stampede is Richmond Yacht Club's oldest regatta. And it's a hoot. Both Juniors and Seniors sail. For Juniors, it's the final race of their season. Among Seniors, the racing can get quite competitive (they have just one more regatta to go, the Corkscrew in Redwood City on October 14). The second race of the morning and afternoon finish in the RYC turning basin. The afternoon races are capped off by the Green Bottle Race, which, this year, required the sailors to race upwind normally, round a windward mark and race back to the turning basin — backward! Results should be posted soon at http://eltoroyra.org, but we can tell you that 17-year-old Mary Marlett won the Green Bottle Race by many boatlengths, and Chase Englehart won the Junior Season Championship.
