AC62 Class Rule Released

June 5, 2014

The new AC62 Class rule was released today and most of the rumors were true:

  • A catamaran 62 feet in overall length
  • A wing with simpler features but not one design
  • Movable foiling daggerboards and rudders to allow pitch control
  • Crew of 8 and no stored energy allowed

While it's not an AC72, it's awfully close, and we can't imagine the speeds or cost of one being that much different than its predecessor. The only question that remains is where the 35th Americas Cup will be held.

Clik here to get to all the dirt on the new cat.

Among the interesting items on the 78-page AC35 protocol released on Tuesday: entries to be accepted from June 9, 2014, through August 8, 2014, with a possibility for late entries (page 21); Nationality Rules on pages 24-25; the AC World Series (30-31); Youth America's Cup (31-32); Match dates and Host City to be announced no later than December 31, 2014 (page 36).
