Catch 'Em While You Can
September 13, 2013 The clock's ticking and time may run out this weekend for watching the 34th America's Cup live and in person. Here is our list of places to go and things to see:
Start with the Dock Out Show. A little bit of TV game show mixed in with the yachting crowd. The show starts at 11:45 on the Presentation Stage at Pier 27/29.
Grab an American flag if so inclined. Jeff here has plenty left.
Watch the boats depart Pier 27, then head over to the hill above Fort Mason to watch part of the racing. A bicycle is the way to go, but you can take the Muni F-Line to Fisherman's Wharf then walk from there.
Or hop on a pedicab if you have $20 to spare.
They even have docents on the hill.
Forget about Aquatic Park Pier as it is closed during the races. Apparently it is too fragile to handle a large volume of sightseers.
The end of the Festival Pavilion pier in Fort Mason has a good view of the entire course except for the finish.
Some are paying the five bucks to board Balclutha for the view at the end of the Hyde Street Pier. The Pier itself is free.
After the races, head to the Waiheke Island Yacht Club at Pier 29 next door to the AC Park. All are welcome.
Just don't wear your Oracle gear. You will be outnumbered. And if you need a tour guide for the next America's Cup, don't ask us. We don't know Auckland…
