A Chip off the Old Block

Ten-year old Jessie likes photography and sailboats, dogs, Justin Beiber and texting. Dad Erik Simonson - a professional marine photographer who regularly contributes to Latitude 38, this website, and his own site, www.pressure-drop.us - says, "A tough negotiator, she will no doubt do well in business school. She assists dad when possible, but doesn't work cheap - she consumed nearly the whole bag of cheese puffs on this outing!"

"This outing" involved photographing Laser 4.7 sailors, whose Youth Worlds will be held at St. Francis Yacht Club July 26-August 2. Entries for the regatta number 165 (112 boys and 53 girls), representing 28 countries.

You can see that the sailors are out practicing, and not officially competing, as these are not regulation sails, with small numbers and no country code. ©2011 Jessie Simonson
