More Midwinters

January 19, 2011

While we spent quite a lot of time at the very popular Corinthian Midwinters, it wasn't the only game in town last weekend. On Saturday, the third South Beach Yacht Club Island Fever race was sailed under picture-perfect sunny skies. The only problem was a rather swift 2.5-knot ebb for the racers to contend with. An 8-10 knot northerly sent the "fast" fleet out around Treasure Island and back on a 7.7 mile course, the fastest boat being Dale Williams' Wasabi at PHRF -42 and the slowest a trio rating 126.

Results and more from the SBYC series can be seen at www.southbeachyachtclub.org. More of Erik's photos can be seen on his gallery of Saturday's racing, which includes the afore-mentioned Corinthians as well as this race.

The following day, Oakland Yacht Club ran their second Sunday Brunch race on the Estuary. "The Brunch Series has good attendance," claimed our source, "31 boats on course, with 36 registered. The races started on time. The fog burned off as the day went on, and it actually got sort of warm on the Estuary. That's relative." The Race Committee reported nine knots from the west.
