The Olson 30 Corsair in March's Big Daddy Regatta, sailing on the Richmond Riviera. ©2010 norcalsailing.com |
New Regattas, Part 2: The Richmond Riviera Regatta April 24, 2010 We've got a big new Regatta: You know, around the cans on Saturday, up, down, up down; it's enough to make your head spin. Then Sunday a Big Bay Tour around the Central Bay. Perfect for a Big Boat Series tune-up. I'm a little tired and a lot thirsty; what's next? Well the docks and the deck at the Richmond Yacht Club, of course! One of the very few places on the Central Bay where summer fells like summer should feel; you know - WARM! Richmond knows how to put on a race, and everyone knows we really know how to put on a party! Plus someone told me this is a "Party with a Conscience." What is that? It turns out this entire event is a benefit for organizations helping our neighbors in need. We've found four non-profits which offer counseling, training and opportunity to Richmond residents in need. Supporting folks who help people help themselves makes this a special event. Come on to the RYC; raft in the harbor. If you want to stay a little longer, arrange additional nights, Friday or Sunday (or both) by calling: Rich Weirick, (510) 234-6959 or email him. For more information go to http://richmondrivieraregatta.com. - More Later, Sail Dog This year, the members of the Richmond Yacht Club have made a commitment to give back to our community. We want to help build a future for our youth and the people of Richmond and we are asking for your support. The Richmond Riviera Regatta is a chance to 'give where we live'. Our community needs assistance and though our lives may be difficult in this economy, there are others less fortunate than us. This regatta promises spectacular weather, the very best sailing courses from an experienced race committee, and everyone knows the Richmond Yacht Club throws the best regatta parties on the Bay. Join us for a 'Party with a Conscience,' August 21-22. We’ll have a rocking band, warm sun on the docks and deck, great food, silent auctions, sponsorship events and awards ceremonies that will make this regatta a very memorable event. Most people are only aware of the troubles of Richmond, but that’s not the city we know. From its inception as an oil and railroad town, through the shipbuilding years of World War II, and right up to today, the people of Richmond have worked hard to build our state and defend our country. The Kaiser Shipyards built 747 ships for the war effort, an achievement commemorated in Richmond’s own Rosie the Riveter National Historical Park. The committee for the regatta has spent extensive effort vetting the charities that will benefit from our proceeds. The following have been selected:
We value your participation. Help us help others. Visit us at our website for more information: richmondrivieraregatta.com - Richmond Yacht Club Registration opens in June.
