Woodies on the Cityfront
Woodies on the Cityfront
The Wooden Boat Racing Association had its second race of the season on Saturday, fortunately for them along the Cityfront, about the only place there was any wind. The Race Committee reported 15 knots; the puffs were in the 20-25 knot range.
Due to the wind direction and the flood current, the RC set the windward mark very close to Blackaller, the SSS Corinthian’s windward mark, so there was some dodging going on as racers tried to compete within their own race, while avoiding the other.
Some of the WBRA fleets are looking very robust. The Knarrs in particular got 17 boats out on the course this weekend. Second best were Folkboats, with 11. Of course you can still buy a new Folkboat, and the fleet is into promotion. IODs got 5 out of 8 signed up, while only 3 Birds raced - only half the flock of the 6 signed up. Robin, Polly and Curlew made the scene (and finished in that order), while Petrel, Oriole and Widgeon took the day off. And what of the other Birds in the Bird’s Nest at Sausalito Yacht Harbor? We’d love to see you all out on the course together - what a photo opp that would be!
Eric Kaiser’s Josephine won the Folkboat division, James Hennefer’s La Paloma the IODs, and Chris Perkins’ Three Boys and a Girl topped the Knarrs. You can see all the results at www.yra.org.
