Our Favorites from 2009
As 2009 comes to a close, we take a look back at all the fun we had bringing you sailing stories, photos and videos this year. Here’s our top ten:
1. and 2. Photos we loved that didn’t make the cut for the 2009 Calendar pages. (By the way, you can still order calendars from our store.)

Harken’s Joe Penrod in the ASL Championship in May. Despite this mishap, Harken went on to win the regatta. The only reason we didn’t use this shot in the calendar is that it’s captured from video, and therefore too small for high quality print. © 2009 norcalsailing.com
3 and 4. Favorite videos. Delta Ditch Run (coincidentally or not, also our favorite race), which was our longest video of the year, and Cal 40s in the Big Boat Series.
5 and 6. The year’s casualties. In March, we bid goodbye to Heatwave, lost in the Doublehanded Farallones. In July, Savage Beauty broke apart on the rocks in the Second Half Opener. Fortunately, all hands were saved.
7. Near disaster dramatically averted: the capsize of BoomSlang in the second Sarcoma Cup. We didn’t get photos of the crew swimming to Alcatraz as we were busy on the radio with the Coast Guard.
