We’ve passed the halfway mark in Singlehanded TransPac finishers, with 13 competitors anchored in Hanalei Bay.

Ruben Gabriel, whose Pearson Electra Sparky dismasted, is now less than 500 miles away and in great spirits. He is determined to finish, making about four knots under jury rig. Still no word from Barbara Euser’s Bristol 34 Islander, however the race committee expects her to finish with the Feral-Black Feathers group. She was having problems with communication before she stopped checking in, but was having no other problems. There’s no reason to be overly concerned yet.
Discussion among the finishers now centers on the next step. Several boats will be shipped back, some at a cost greater then the value of the boats themselves. Others will be sailed back. A couple will be sold here in Hawaii.
We have more day-to-day video coming, so check back soon. See our Archives section for previous reports, and our Movies page for previous videos. For background, position reports, and racers’ logs, see www.sfbaysss.org.
