Farewell to Rob Moore

January 5, 2012

It is with great sadness that we must write this. Former sailing journalist Rob Moore passed away this afternoon at home in Mill Valley, surrounded by family, at the age of 58. Rob had been the racing editor at Latitude 38 for a couple of decades, then crewed on the globe-trotting grand prix yachts named Moneypenny. He battled stage four lung cancer (with every weapon in the oncologists' arsenal and a great deal of personal courage) for more than two years.

For an excellent, in-depth obituary, see the Scuttlebutt forum (be sure to scroll down to the reply, 'Submitted by friends of Rob'. Donations honoring Rob can be made to the National Lung Cancer Partnership, Hospice by the Bay, or through a special fund set up at the Marin Community Foundation.

A celebration of life will be held on the afternoon of Sunday, February 12, at Corinthian YC in Tiburon, where Rob was a member.
