Three Bridge Fiasco Trophy Meeting

February 11, 2011

On Wednesday night, the Singlehanded Sailing Society held their Three Bridge Fiasco trophy meeting and all had a good time at the Oakland Yacht Club. The crowd listened to the stories about which direction was the wrong or right choice. And the meeting finished up with a reminder that the next SSS race is the SSS Corinthian on April 2. You can sign up right now at www.sfbaysss.org. Three Bridge results are there too.

Besides the official awards, bottles of rum dotted some of the tables. Tom Warren explains, "The unofficial 3BF divisions are something I started doing around four years ago on Sailing Anarchy. This year I carried it over to Pressure Drop, and it is truly a much better fit. The reason I started doing it was because I realized that there were a lot of sailors that were communicating on website forums. We would be racing against each other every few weekends but never meet in person. I thought to myself what do we all have in common other than sailing and then - BAM - it came to me - RUM! It’s a fun little contest, and every year I run into one or two people who I don’t know or have known for years informally and make new bonds. Basically it is my way of 'making friends and influencing minds'… one bottle o'rum at a time!' All of the credit goes to the SSS group; in the four or five years we have been doing this they have quietly let us go about our fun and games within their race."

For more on the 'Pressure Drop' division, see the forum thread.

After the race, we posted a video from Eyrie - turns out that one was just teaser for a longer movie to be posted later this weekend.
