Shortened Perspective
Shortened Perspective
“In your article ‘TBF Racers POV’ you show a picture taken by Rich Hudnut that claims that the FT10 Centomiglia (that is flying the red/white/green spinnaker) is in the restricted area in front of the Richmond Long Wharf. The red buoy shown in the picture is "6" and according to the SSI can be left to port. The buoy that should be left to starboard is "2 QR", probably behind our boat when the pic was taken. The picture is taken with a long tele, and we look much closer to the wharf than we really were (more than 1/2 mile).
“The picture of our GPS track shows that we passed between ‘6’ and ‘2 QR’. The SSI where the Richmond Long Wharf restricted area is defined reads, “viii. A line connecting the three buoys G ‘3’ Fl G 4s (1/3 nm south of Richmond Long Wharf), R ‘2’ Q R (1/2 nm west of Richmond Long
Wharf) and R ‘2CR’ Fl R 4s (Castro Rock buoy) – to East.
“Could you please update the article accordingly?
“P.S: Great reports on the 3 bridges. I really enjoy reading your site, keep it up!”
- Fabio Maino, Flying Tiger 10 Centomiglia
We believe you Fabio. Your boat, and probably the other boat in the photo, appear closer than they are to the Wharf due to shortened perspective caused by a long lens. There will be a protest hearing regarding violations of this restricted area, but Centomiglia is not one of the protestees and Twist is not one of the protestors.
