New Year Brunch
New Year Brunch
Oakland Yacht Club’s first Sunday Brunch race of 2010 was held January 3 in light air on the Estuary. While smaller boats battled bigger breeze to the north at Richmond YC, the brunchers barely had enough to keep moving. “I stopped taking pictures when one of the multihulls turned on the engine to go in,” said the photographer who contributed these images.
The club’s website includes a description of the race: “The first Sunday Brunch race of 2010 was sailed on a glorious day with bright skies and cool temperatures in the low to mid-50s. Winds were light and fluky, ranging from 0 to 10 knots, out of the northwest, west, south, southeast,
and north, not necessarily in that order. Forty-two boats registered for the Sunday Brunch series, and 33 were on the line for the first race.” Results are up at http://sites.google.com/site/oycracing/Home.
As you might expect, the Sunday Brunch Series gets it name from the meal served at the clubhouse before the race. (Despite its name, Oakland YC is in Alameda’s Marina Village.) Shoreside activities on each race day also include an “introductory class covering some aspect of winter racing in the Estuary.”
The next Sunday Brunch race will be on January 24. You can sign up for single races for $14.
