All American 28
All American 28
If you can't stand your job or it fails miserably, do what Hank McCune did. Build boats. Hank starred in The Hank McCune Show in 1950, and the sitcom lasted only three months before being canceled. The show’s only claim to fame was the invention of the laugh track.
Later in the ‘50s, Hank started building the Victory 21 and the All American 28 in Wilmington, California, and toward the end of his career he built the Yorktown 39. Only ten All Americans were built, and one is here on the Bay, owned by Jonas Rowe. The All American was notable for its early fin keel, which was more swept back than modern fin keels. Jonas has been hard at work modifying the boat for the Bay conditions. He's added area to the keel and a new rudder that makes the boat go to weather a little better than before. At age fifty it was oldest boat in Saturday’s Plastic Classic.
