Barbary Coast Race
Barbary Coast Race
John Liebenberg, sailing his Antrim 27 Always Friday, won Richmond Yacht Club's initial and very breezy (20's+) Barbary Coast Race in the spinnaker division.
In typical RYC fashion Jim and Susie Bewley tried to port tack the non-spinny start in their cruising-rigged Santa Cruz 50 Another Girl. Even with the added inducement of the "Big Boat Has the Right of Way" rule, they were not successful.
The course stretched from Klein Buoy (XOC) on the Berkeley Circle up to Blackaller Buoy off the San Francisco shore thence to a finish off the infamous Killer Green on the Richmond Riviera.
About thirty boats competed in this event, part of RYC’s club series. The next installment in the series is the Tri-Island race on August 15. See www.richmondyc.org.
