A little known hazard to navigation has sprung up at the north entrance to the Oakland Estuary. Described as a ‘dredging wall’, it is submerged at high tide, unlit and with warning signs posted on top instead of in front which makes it hard to see until it's too late.
The signs read, “SUBMERGED DANGER JETTY.” Danger jetty indeed. © 2009 norcalsailing.com
It has already claimed at least one victim, Scott Christensen's J/29 Audacious.
With help from the insurance industry and the boat yard, Audacious will be repaired. © 2009 norcalsailing.com
