Spring Dinghy Regatta
Spring Dinghy Regatta
Thoughts of spring, spring forward, spring flowers and allergies, and of course the St Francis Yacht Club's Spring Dinghy Regatta. Just as the Island YC race committee was finishing the Doublehanded Lightship racers off the Golden Gate YC deck, the 505s Lasers, 29ers, Wetas and such were starting a great weekend of two multi-race days in bright sunshine and... well, it did rain on Sunday. But the wind was there, the competition was great and the courses were square.
Dave Berntsen of Richmond Yacht Club and the Weta trimaran fleet described how the day went for him: "Sunday was lighter and easier. On Saturday It was lumpy at first, but as the tide shifted the waves flattened out. It was fun racing, and we even were able to catch up to some of the 505s that started five minutes ahead of us. We were not the slow boats. In the end the guy that won in the Wetas is brand new to the boat. Alan Prussia got on the boat on Friday and after a couple of hours he had it figured out."
Where else but here can so much racing be had in so many different boats in the spring?
