The Nicest People
The Nicest People
Sometimes you meet the nicest people while racing on the Bay. During the Singlehanded Sailing Society’s Vallejo 1-2 this year, a ship came into the Richmond Long Wharf to re-fuel, and while this is a tricky maneuver on most days, with 63 sailboats milling about in the way you would think the bar pilot would be pissed. But the courteous unknown pilot on the ship Cygnus Voyager got on the race frequency on the VHF and asked very politely, "Sorry to mess with your race, but we need to get into the wharf. I'll try to avoid you but if you could clear a path that would be great." After a few minutes of dropping chutes and heading up out of the way, all was clear. Cygnus Voyager made it safely to the dock and the pilot radioed to the singlehanders, "Thanks a lot. I hope we didn't cause anyone to get behind, and have a good race."
We think that pilot must be one of us when not at work.
