Tiburon Yacht Club Midwinter One started on Saturday, January 10, with promising breezes but soon proved to be typical winter with 4-8 knots from the NE at the start off the clubhouse in Paradise Cay switching to 3-6 N approaching G7 then switching to 3 E for a minute, then back to NE, then nothing, then, then . . . sheeze, make up your mind. The wicked ebb played havoc on tactics. I don’t think I’ve ever been passed so quickly by a barge . . . at anchor! In the end, most of the fleet was headed for LF2 when the Race Committee shortened course to return to the finish.
Lon Woodrum’s Moore 24 Frenzy finished first, Ian Matthew’s C&C 29 Siento el Viento second and our C&C 30 Meritime third in Division Two. Division One, all J/105s, found Aidan Collins’ Miss Demeanor finishing first, the Hoehlers’ Joyride second and Natural Blonde, skippered by Kelsie Deisinger, finishing third. It still turned out to be a great day with one skipper commenting, “We never got a drop of water on the boat.” And, as far as I know, no one ran out of beer, not even Otto.
Thanks to Tracy and Dennis for stepping up to do Race Committee. You were great!
