Last month’s headline for the Golden Gate Midwinters read, “Rain, Hail and Swell.” This month, we just had rain, rain and rain. The storm-whipped southerly resulted in lots of reaching, and in last minute sail changes and reefing.

The race committee sent the bigger boats on a typical 9-mile triangle-sausage course around Blackaller, Harding Rock and Fort Mason Buoys, while the smaller boats got windward-leewards around inflatable marks. But even the intended windward-leewards were reach-reaches.

It was a good day to have great foulies and a lot of team spirit. The soaking wet crews appreciated the clubhouse fireplace and the post-race ‘Seaweed Soup’.
