Golden Gate YC Seaweed Soup
It’s not a dish on the clubhouse menu, it’s the name of the prize in GGYC’s midwinter series, the Manuel Fagundes Seaweed Soup Perpetual Trophy.
An amendment to the division breakdowns might have been confusing, but pro PRO Matt Jones kept everyone straight by listing off the names of the boats starting as each division went into sequence. Last month’s first installment was abandoned due to lack of wind. This month’s second installment began on the last of an ebb in a brisk westerly, which mellowed as the tide shifted to flood.
Despite the addition of a $10 charge for the previously free post-race buffet, Saturday’s race drew 70 boats from all over the Bay and Lake Tahoe.
The third helping of Soup will be served up on Saturday, January 5. Maybe we’ll see you there in the New Year!
