In the Tiburon Box

March 11, 2013

While Big Daddy sailors were racing in the Slot bashing around inflatable marks on Saturday, Tiburon Yacht Club quietly ran their last midwinter race. The TYC Midwinters consist of three races total with each one held once a month starting in January and offering a chance to play the current and light winter winds off of Paradise Cay. The day couldn't have been sunnier or more pleasant (unless you could add ten degrees to the air temperature), and the boats enjoyed a light 10-knot southwesterly. The course du jour was an 8-mile box formed by local buoys, making for a lot of reaching. Throw in a 2-knot ebb to mess with the laylines, and you have a nice alternative to the usual windward/leeward racing scene.
