America's Cup Racing Box Defined

January 30, 2012

The Coast Guard has released the preposed regulations for the racing area in the AC45 World Series this year and AC34 in 2013. In a nutshell they are restricting some boat traffic on race days on the Cityfront and east to Treasure Island in the form of a long box (kind of like Fleet Week). And if a northerly or southerly wind direction somehow forms in the middle of summer, they will set up the box between Alcatraz and Treasure Island, with the ends north and south. If you want to weed through it, the PDF is here:

You can comment by mail, fax, or online at www.regulations.gov. See the PDF above for complete contact information.

They are also setting up three public meetings on these proposed rules on March 6, 7, and 8, 2012. The meetings will be held from 1800 to 2000 hours in the following locations:

March 6: Presidio Log Cabin, 1299 Storey Ave., San Francisco;
March 7: Inn Marin, 250 Entrada Dr., Novato;
March 8: Waterfront Hotel, 10 Washington St., Oakland.
