Island Days

December 12, 2011

Island Days, not to be confused with South Beach YC's Island Fever, is Island YC's midwinter series, held on Sundays on the Estuary. This Sunday, the race started on time, with just enough wind to get over the line going the right way (northwest). The results define the wind as, "Wind 3-5 K from all."

Twenty-eight boats in four starts on the narrow line made for some minor havoc at some of the starts. The 11-boat Division A got away with just some minor fouls, but subsequent divisions had a barge blowing five horns and a circling Coast Guard inflatable to contend with.

The light wind built to a nice breeze as the four divisions made their way toward their respective windward marks, and the rain held off until after dark. After everyone finished, the always-friendly Island YC treated the racers to several crock pots of hot chili and soup.
