The Piers and the America's Cup

January 1, 2011

With the announcement of America's Cup 34 being raced on San Francisco Bay, we took a look at the locations on 'Plan C', which has shuffled the piers yet again and still needs to be approved by the Board of Supervisors. Pier 27 is out, with Piers 19-29 being the new viewing area. Piers 26-28 are also on the list as potential sites. Piers 30-32 (just a chunk of rotting concrete, currently used as a parking lot for Giants' fans) is still slated to be the teams' base. And Seawall Lot 330 just across the street is still the planned site for the media center.

Piers 30 and 32
You can still park your car on Piers 30 and 32, at the foot of Bryant Street, but they're no longer stable enough for trucks and busses, or safe enough for KFOG's KaBoom. ©2011 norcalsailing.com

Red's Java House
We hope that Red's Java House, located at the northwest corner of Pier 30, survives the redevelopment. ©2011 norcalsailing.com

Seawall
Across the Embarcadero from Piers 30-32, Seawall Lot 330 is another parking lot. ©2011 norcalsailing.com

Hi Dive and Pier 28
Next to Red's, the Hi Dive is on less shaky ground. They are looking forward to the business. Pier 28 next door has also been mentioned in the press as a potential site. ©2011 norcalsailing.com

Pier 19
The Port of San Francisco has good intentions, but America's Cup cash will do more than minor repairs. ©2011 norcalsailing.com

Pier 29 is the farthest north on the list. ©2011 norcalsailing.com
